Destination: Jamboree 2011

Kastrup Copenhagen is the main airport in Denmark, but at the 27th of July 2011 it was full of young people headed for another country. Young people with colorful shirts, scarfs and in some cases hats. As you probably already have guessed, they were scouts going to the Jamboree! And maybe you were one of them?

Right outside the baggage claim we met Amelia from Hong Kong, who had been travelling for over 12 hours just to get to Kastrup. While catching a transit flight on the way there she met some scouts from Singapore, but otherwise she and her fellow travellers had been the only scouts at the journey. As she is a Carer for another scout going to the Jamboree, she hoped that her careperson will learn and have an exchange from other places of the world. Since the Jamboree will consist of more than 150 nationalities, that is not unlikely!Italy

When Amelia had to move on towards her baggage, the hall was suddenly empty of scouts. For a little moment. Just after a short moment, a group of Canadian scouts showed up and of course wanted to talk to us. Spencer, Lewis and Oliver had all been travelling towards Frankfurt as early as this saturday, and thought the time they spent in Germany was great. Since one of them had visited Sweden before, they had some thoughts about it already. ”They have meatballs, and it seems safe!”

MayaAnna and Giorgia from Italy was also on their way to the baggage. The flight to Amsterdam had left Italy Tuesday midnight, and they were planning to go on to the Jamboree by bus. Their hopes to meet new people from other parts of the world but their own had already come true since they met Scouts from both France and Venezuela on the way!

The longer the time went on, the more scouts arrived at the hall and suddenly a whole gate was filled with beige shirts and caps with the American flag. One of the scouts were Maya from Dallas, who was superpumped and ready for the Jamboree! The thing she looked forward to the most about was meeting new people and learning about cultures, but also to the different kinds of food that is to be served at camp.

A real Scouting airport so to speak! Even though the other travellers maybe didn’t know what was going on, all the scouts knew, and could connect just by being scouts and saying hi to eachother. Something big was going on, and it was great to be there.
